Some Things I Miss From Our Vacation

Here's what's sad: I actually miss the stench of Treasure Island.

You know what else I miss? Happy hour at Isla, Treasure Island's tequila bar.

I also miss Sushi Samba at the Palazzo. YUM!

I miss my brother and Sarah (here we are at the truly lurid Peppermill Fireside Lounge)

Here's another photo that Pete took in the Fireside Lounge
I love that place. I first went there with some friends when we were driving cross-country in 1987. It was just as fabulous disco-loungey. Pete and I took his parents there in 2001. We all sat around the fire pit and got into a conversation with a gaggle of drunken UNLV architecture students. One great thing about the Peppermill is that its owners know exactly what they have on their hands. Any renovations they've made have maintained the spirit of the place.

Here I am dumpster diving:

And look who I bumped into at Caesar's Palace:

Some Views

The view from the window of our room at Treasure Island. As you can (sort of) see, the room itself contains not a hint of pirate. It was a nice room. I miss it. There's a lot I'll miss about Vegas.

There was only one guy I saw at Treasure Island who was dressed as a pirate. He was holding hands with a girl who was dressed as a peasant and they were on the line to get into Cirque du Soleil. I do not believe they were hotel employees.

I did get to the point where I wanted to just turn off my eyes. Has that ever happened to you? I couldn't take looking at all the people anymore. It felt strange to see so very many people pass through my day without any of them being familiar in any way. None of them were somebody I was happy to see.

When we're in Boston we see lots of strangers but we also see friends just about every night. Vermont has such a small population that you're pretty much going to see someone you know anywhere you go. The sheer number of unknown people we encountered in Vegas became, well, disappointing. Funny, huh?

Below is the view from our window at night.

Not A Gambler

I sat down at a table and gambled for the first time yesterday. I played roulette. It was great - I lost forty bucks in about three minutes! I think I'll stick to just buying things from now on.

It's day two at Treasure Island and I'm now used to the smell. We went to the Venetian yesterday and it smells worse than T.I.

You know what smells better though? Encore. So pretty. We took a stroll through there last night. I'd like to stay there someday.

Then we went to one of our favorite Vegas hot spots, the Peppermill. I will have photos later.

Here's My Breakfast

I'm in Vegas.

Pete and I are staying at Treasure Island. It smells funny. I think it's some branding gimmick where they have a signature scent that permeates the place. It's not bad exactly, just kind of cheap-o. The waffles and the bun are fantastic though (there's a Vietnamese section in the coffee shop - who knew?).

The awful top forty music is inescapeable. Good thing I brought my ear plugs. I will wear them by the pool later.

Last night the place was swarming with partially sequined and spandexed women. Everyone is wearing the same five-inch black stiletto platform shoes - tedious. It's kind of funny to see what people do. "I'm going to Vegas! Time to get out the whorewear!" There's less of it this morning but it's still there.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining in any way. I love it. It's all so interesting and everyone seems to be having a really fun time. That's what we're here for. So whatever makes it work for you.

And now, off to the pool!

Not Bloggy

I haven't been feeling very bloggy lately. Sorry. The things that are taking up the majority of my brain space are not things I've felt I could share.

Pete, Fay and I are fine though - not to worry.

We were in California last week. I brought the charger for the camera but not the camera. There was a photo I wished I could have taken to post that I didn't take of the top of a hedge.

Mom and I went shopping twice. We needed retail therapy. I bought a pair of those Sketcher butt shoes. Wait a second and I'll google what they're actually called... Oh yeah, "Shape Ups." Like my old Fit Flops, I don't know if they work but I like how they look and they are fun to wear. Instead of being bored while you just stand in one place you have to pay attention to keeping your balance. I love being entertained.

Today I ordered some plants to put in my garden in the spring. That was risky because I'm not positive I'll be in Vermont when the plants arrive. I went with it anyway.

My friend Jill says life is messy. Mine's not especially but maybe it should be. I'll try to work on that, though it goes against my nature.
